The Information Engineering Division offers advanced research studies at Masters (MPhil and MRes) and PhD level through the Engineering Department. It has a vibrant community with approximately 130 graduate students at any one time.

The MPhil is a full-time one-year course (also available part-time over two years) of research, introducing students to research skills and specialist knowledge.

The PhD students at the Division are expected to produce original work making a significant contribution to knowledge in the field of engineering. This is a full-time three- to four-year research programme, also available part-time over five to seven years.

For more information on the research MPhil and PhD programme, please visit the Research Study page at the Department of Engineering Website. Applications for these programmes can be submitted via the University Postgraduate Admissions Pages for MPhil and PhD. Most supervisors do not accept MPhil students so you are advised to contact the supervisor directly before applying.

Each postgraduate application in the Division is allocated to one of the six research themes and is considered by relevant academic staff members. The applicants may wish to identify a particular research theme or supervisor they would like to work with in their application. Those who are deemed to be strong are interviewed virtually or in person. The decision to make a conditional offer of admission is based on the applicant’s merit alone, as are the nominations for the funding opportunities available from the UniversityEngineering Department, or Cambridge Trust.

The Information Division is committed to ensure and nurture a positive and inclusive ethos so that under-represented groups can be supported and encouraged and that diversity is valued. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates.
